Continuing the Battle for Christ - Week 4

How should we respond to persecution?

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil.  Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.  Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.  On the contrary: ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:17-21 NIV84).

These words of the Apostle Paul are some of the most difficult in Scripture because it is human nature to want to seek revenge when we are hurt or wronged.  However, we cannot exhibit the love of Christ while spewing hatred and anger. Pray that we will respond by showing the love of Christ!

How should we pray for the lost?

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9 NIV84).

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;” (Psalm 37:7a NIV84).

We must be persistent in our prayers for the lost.  God’s timing is not our own, and His ways are not our ways.  Don’t give up!  Continue your fervent prayers for both loved ones and strangers.  Be persistent and wait patiently for the Lord’s timing.

Leadership Prayer Focus This Week: Church Leadership

“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:6 NIV84).

The leadership of our Churches is faced with enormous responsibilities in guiding others toward Christ and nurturing their faith growth.  To serve Christ effectively, they must stand strong against Satan’s attacks.

Pray that: They will hold to the Truth of the Gospel, without compromise.

They will be bold in their witness.

They will seek God’s wisdom and guidance in their decisions.

They will serve with humility and truly be servant leaders.

They and their families will be protected from the attacks of Satan.

For all our leaders, pray that if they do not already know Christ, they will accept Him as Lord.  For those who do know Christ, pray that they will stand firm on His Truth and His Word, never compromising it or minimizing it.
