Day 9: Count YOur Blessings!

Day 9:  Count Your Blessings!

Read and Meditate on:  Exodus 15: 1 - 21

                                          Isaiah 63: 7

                                          Ephesians 1: 3

Perhaps the best way to express your thanks to God is to count your blessings.  The world constantly bombards us with the ‘things” we “need” to be part of the “in” crowd.  Our colleagues set the standards for “success,” and our egos push us to achieve more and more so that we can receive the praise of men.  When the “things” aren’t quite as nice as we would like, or our “success” in the world’s eyes looks more like a failure or when praise comes seldom if at all, it is easy to become downtrodden and depressed.  I’ve thrown a few of those pity parties myself.  They are not pretty.

When we rise above that despair and seek to assess all that we have been given, we generally find – even during desperate situations – our blessings are more than we could ever have imagined.  As the hymn writer says: “Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.”[1]

Supplication:

Father, thank You for blessing me more than I ever deserved.  Help me to remember the blessings even during the storms and help me to be content with all that I have been given.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
